History
started in 1892Our church is over 126 years old and is located in quaint downtown Hilo on the eastside of the Big Island of Hawaii. Originally the church was dedicated as the Portuguese Evangelical Church with 101 members in December 1892. As of today in 2018 we still have members in our church congregation whose grandfather and father were part of the congregation who helped to build the church in 1892.
In 1930 the church was altered to include a pastor’s office, choir loft, kitchen, and a few classrooms that were finished in 1931. The name Portuguese Evangelical Church was changed in 1935 to Central Christian Church Hilo.
Culturally we have a diverse congregation who worship together and have become a family who enjoy gathering for fellowship which includes: barbeques, camping and retreats.
If you are looking for a place to worship where the Holy Spirit has liberty to move in our midst, we would like to invite you to come join us.
